  • CHANGES TO THE TEXAS MCLE REGULATIONS

    The State Bar of Texas Board of Directors approved changes to the MCLE regulations that will simplify accreditation fees charged to sponsors and will increase efficiency and cost savings for the State Bar. These changes will become effective January 1, 2020.

    The State Bar Board of Directors Nominations and Elections Subcommittee voted to recommend Pablo Almaguer of Edinburg and Sylvia Borunda Firth of El Paso as nominees for 2020-2021 State Bar of Texas president-elect, after interviewing six potential nominees in Austin.

  • MANDATORY BAR LAWSUIT

    The State Bar is vigorously defending its statutory structure in response to a lawsuit that challenges the mandatory bar in Texas. Mandatory membership in a state bar is constitutional under U.S. Supreme Court precedent because of the state’s interest in regulating the legal profession and improving the quality of legal services.
