Military Spouse Attorney
REQUIREMENTS
Spouses of Military personnel are eligible for a three-year temporary license to practice law in Texas, if the Military spouse:

is admitted to practice law in another State;
-
is in good standing in all jurisdictions where admitted and an active member of the bar in at least one State;
-
is not currently subject to discipline or the subject of a pending disciplinary matter in any jurisdiction;
-
has never been disbarred or resigned in lieu of discipline in any jurisdiction;
-
has never had an application for admission to any jurisdiction denied on character or fitness grounds;
-
meets the law study requirements of Rule 3 or is exempted under Rule 13 §§ 3, 4, or 5;
-
has satisfactorily completed the Texas Law Component; and
-
is residing in Texas.
REGISTRATION
A Military Spouse Attorney can apply for a temporary license on the Texas Board of Law Examiners website, by creating an ATLAS account and submitting an application. Visit ble.texas.gov/faq for additional information regarding ATLAS accounts and the Military Spouse Attorney application process. After the Military Spouse Attorney application has been approved by the Texas Board of Law Examiners, the Military Spouse Attorney will be able to register on the State Bar of Texas website at this link: www.texasbar.com/newattorney
