Identity Fraud Flag Program

The State Bar of Texas identity fraud flag program helps attorneys who have become a victim of identity fraud by providing a way to alert the public that another individual may be impersonating the attorney.

Attorneys who wish to participate in the program may voluntarily report the identity fraud incident to the State Bar Membership Department and request that the following message be added to their online profile:

“The State Bar of Texas has been advised that someone has been impersonating [Attorney’s Name]. If you have been contacted by someone claiming to be this attorney or by someone claiming to communicate on this attorney’s behalf and have any reason to doubt the person’s identity, please contact [Attorney’s Name] at [Work Phone Number] to verify that you are in contact with the correct person.”

The message will remain on the attorney’s online profile for one year unless the attorney chooses to remove the message before then. Attorneys can also choose to extend the duration of the message by contacting the Membership Department.

To enroll in the program, please email the following items to the Membership Department at memmail@texasbar.com:

A record of the fraud report will be kept on file in the State Bar Membership Department to be accessible by the Office of the Chief Disciplinary Counsel, in case a grievance is filed as a result of the identity fraud incident.
