Randy Sorrels
State Bar President, 2019-2020
Randy Sorrels is a partner in Sorrels Law. The product of a military family, his approach is straightforward: have a disciplined plan, use common sense, build consensus, and work hard.
Sorrels is double board certified in personal injury trial law and civil trial law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He is also board certified in civil trial law and civil practice advocacy by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. He was also named the TEX-ABOTA Trial Lawyer of the Year in Texas. Along with his wife, Alexandra Farias-Sorrels, Sorrels secured what is believed to be one of the largest actual damages verdicts in U.S. history for an injured worker in a contested liability case. He has received the State Bar of Texas President’s Award and Judge Sam Williams Award, the Houston Bar Association President’s Award, and was named the Woodrow B. Seals Outstanding Young Lawyer of Houston Award winner by the Houston Young Lawyers Association.
Sorrels is also passionate about pro bono work. Through his philanthropy, he established the Randall O. Sorrels Legal Clinics at South Texas College of Law Houston, which houses 24 different clinics supporting the Houston community. Sorrels has also served as commissioner of the Texas Access to Justice Commission. Sorrels has volunteered his time serving the profession as well and has served as president of the Houston Bar Association, the Houston Trial Lawyers Association, and the Texas Association of Civil Trial & Appellate Specialists. He serves on the board of directors of South Texas College of Law Houston and the Texas Trial Lawyers Association. He is a past chair of the fellows of the Texas Bar Foundation and served as a trustee on that board for six years.
A magna cum laude graduate of both Houston Christian University and South Texas College of Law Houston, Sorrels is married to a lawyer and has six children, including two who are lawyers. He has received the distinguished alumnus awards from both schools and regularly contributes to both schools with his time and treasure.
