BOB BLACK
State Bar President, 2011-2012
Bob Black is managing shareholder of MehaffyWeber, P.C., where he practices mediation, arbitration, and civil litigation. As State Bar President, he spearheaded a law-related education initiative, “Oyez, Oyez, Oh Yay! Civics Resources for Texas Students and Teachers,” to provide Texas schools with free online resources on important court cases students are required to study.
He has served as chair of the State Bar Board of Directors, chair of the Policy Manual Subcommittee, chair of the Facilities and Equipment Subcommittee, co-chair of the Nomination and Elections Subcommittee, and vice chair of the Executive Committee. The Board honored Black in 2009 with a Certificate of Merit for his leadership and outstanding contributions to the legal profession. He received a Presidential Citation in 2006 for outstanding service.
Black is a past president of the Jefferson County Bar Association. He is a frequent speaker on negotiation and mediation and a member of the State Bar Alternative Dispute Resolution and Litigation sections. Black has served as a trustee of the Texas Bar Foundation, including serving on its Executive Committee. Black is a Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation and the American Bar Foundation. He is a former president of the Humane Society of Southeast Texas.
Black earned a B.A. from the University of Texas at El Paso and a J.D. summa cum laude from Texas Tech University School of Law.
