BOB BLACK
State Bar President, 2011-2012
Bob Black practices mediation, arbitration, and civil litigation. As State Bar president, he spearheaded an award-winning law-related education initiative, Oyez, Oyez, Oh Yay! Civics Resources for Texas Students and Teachers. It provided Texas schools with free online resources on important court cases students are required to study.
Black has served as chair of the State Bar Board of Directors, chair of the Policy Manual Subcommittee, and chair of the Facilities and Equipment Subcommittee. The board honored him in 2009 with a Certificate of Merit for his leadership and outstanding contributions to the legal profession. Black received a Presidential Citation in 2006 for outstanding service.
He is a past president of the Jefferson County Bar Association. Black is a frequent speaker on negotiation and mediation and a member of the State Bar of Texas Alternative Dispute Resolution and Litigation sections. He has served as a trustee of the Texas Bar Foundation, including serving on its Executive Committee. Black is a fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation and the American Bar Foundation. He is a former president of the Humane Society of Southeast Texas.
Black earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Texas at El Paso and a Juris Doctor summa cum laude from Texas Tech University School of Law.
