ELTON “MONTY” MONTGOMERY
Montgomery, 93, of Graham, died January 23, 2024. He
received his law degree from the University of Texas School of Law and
was admitted to the Texas Bar in 1956.
Montgomery served in the U.S. Air Force from 1948 to 1950. He was a
partner in Jennings, Montgomery, Dies & Turner in Graham.
Montgomery was president of the Young County Bar Association and
certified in civil trial law; oil, gas and mineral law; and estate
planning and probate law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He
is remembered for being generous, gregarious, and loving the oil and
gas business. Montgomery is survived by his son, Clint Montgomery;
daughter, Tami Greer; seven grandchildren; and eight
great-grandchildren
JOSEPH SHADE
Shade, 88,
of Austin, died May 24, 2024. He received his law degree from the
University of Texas School of Law and was admitted to the Texas Bar in
1960.
Shade was also a member of the Illinois Bar. He served in the U.S.
Army from 1960 to 1969. Shade was an attorney with large law firms and
corporations in the Dallas-Fort Worth
Metroplex for 20 years and in his own private practice from 1979 to
1990 and was a law professor at the Texas Wesleyan School
of Law, now the Texas A&M University Law School, for 17 years
before retiring in 2008. He is survived by his wife of 59 years,
Denise L. Shade; sons, Brian Shade and Ron Shade; daughter, Randi Shade;
and five grandchildren.
CECIL ROBERT “BOB” RAINWATER
Rainwater,
80, of Dallas, died June 12, 2024. He received his law degree from
Southern Methodist University School
of Law and was admitted to the Texas Bar in 1969.
Rainwater was an associate of Thompson & Knight in 1969, an
attorney with several law firms, and an attorney with the Resolution
Trust Corporation in Dallas until his retirement in 2004. He was a
member of the SMU Moot Court. Rainwater is remembered for his love of
New York Times crossword puzzles, traveling, and cooking and
sharing meals with friends. He is survived by his partner of 28 years,
Linda Powell Mock;
son, Brandon David Rainwater; sister, Lynda McCartney; and two
grandchildren.
DANIEL S. HODGINS
Hodgins,
84, of St. Petersburg, Florida, died June 19, 2024. He received his law
degree from the Oklahoma City University School of Law and was
admitted to the Texas Bar in 1985. Hodgins was also a member
of the Oklahoma Bar. He was an attorney with Dunlap Codding in
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, from 1981 to 1984; Arnold, White & Durkee
in Austin from 1984 to 1999; and Crowe & Dunlevy in Oklahoma City
from 1999 to 2001. Hodgins was a member of the American Bar Association
Patent Law Section, an officer of the American Chemical Society
Division of Chemistry and the Law, and a member of the American
Association for the Advancement of Science. He is remembered for his
dry
wit, devotion to his family, and devotion to progressive causes.
Hodgins is survived by his wife of 59 years, attorney Amy; daughters,
Kate and Dianne; son, Nicholas; sister, Dianne; and three
grandchildren.
ROY LAUGHTON WHITEHEAD JR.
Whitehead Jr., 85, of Longview, died April 19, 2024. He
received his law degree from the University of Texas School of Law and
was admitted
to the Texas Bar in 1963. Whitehead was
an assistant district attorney with the Gregg County District
Attorney’s Office from 1963 to 1966, an attorney with and
partner in Whitehead & Beckworth from 1966 to 1979, and owner of
the Law Offices of R.L. Whitehead Jr. from 1979 to 2020. He was
certified in family law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, a
member of the
American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, and a member of the American
College of Trial Lawyers. Whitehead is remembered
for his love of playing and listening to music, being with his wife
and family at Lake Cherokee in East Texas, and watching college and
professional sports. He is
survived by his wife of 60 years, Martha Hess Whitehead; sons, Roy
Laughton Whitehead III and attorney George Stewart Whitehead;
daughter, Anna Whitehead Kent; sister, Barbara Kiser; eight
grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
JACQUES JEAN LEMARIER
LeMarier, 45, of Euless, died July 19, 2022. He received
his law degree
from the Roger Williams University School of Law and was admitted to
the Texas Bar in 2003. LeMarier was also a member of the Mississippi
Bar. He was an associate of the Law Office of Richard D. Kinkade from
April 2004 to January 2008, managing attorney of Macey & Aleman
from January 2008 to June 2009, an associate of the Law Office of
Richard D. Kinkade from May 2010 to July 2012, managing attorney
and owner of the Law Office of Jacques J. LeMarier from July 2012 to
April 2022, an associate of the Law Offices of Bonnie
L. Johnson from April 2013 to April 2016, and an associate of the
Law Office of Todd
E. Tkach from April 2022 to July 2022. LeMarier is remembered for
his love of travel; sports, including the New York Yankees, Dallas
Stars, and New England Patriots;
and movies, including Disney movies and science fiction and comedy. He
is survived by his daughter, Christine LeMarier; father, Jacques Jean
Elol LeMarier; and brother, Eric LeMarier.
RACHAEL LEIGH ETHERIDGE
Etheridge, 32, of Smyer, died January 2, 2024. She
received her law degree from the University of Georgia School
of Law and was admitted to the Texas Bar in 2015.
Etheridge was a mitigation specialist with the Rural Public
Defender’s Office in Terrell from 2015 to 2019, an associate of
the Rural Public Defender’s Office in Lubbock from 2019 to 2024,
and a panel attorney with
the Lubbock Private Defenders Office. She was the 2024 incoming
president of the Lubbock area chapter of the Texas Criminal Defense
Lawyers Association. Etheridge is remembered for her love of all forms
of art, especially painting and pottery; horseback riding; and tennis.
She is survived by her mother, Lisa Etheridge; father, Dr. Jeffrey S.
Etheridge; brother, attorney Evan Davis Etheridge; and sister, Natalie
Abbott.
