Supreme Court Justice Brett Busby Sworn In
Brett Busby was sworn in to the Texas Supreme Court on March 20, filling a spot left vacant after Justice Phil Johnson retired in December. Busby, who was nominated to the seat by Gov. Greg Abbott, was confirmed by unanimous vote by the Senate earlier in the day. He previously served as a judge on the 14th Court of Appeals in Houston and is the chair of the State Bar of Texas Appellate Section.

2019 Night Court Gearing Up for Theater Production
Houston’s all-lawyer theater company, Night Court, is back with a performance of Law of the Jungle II, a story that follows George of the Jungle as he plays a mysterious game taking him from a law library to the jungle, learning along the way about ethics in politics, election law, and civics. Law of the Jungle II is suitable for all ages and runs August 14-17 at Houston’s Hobby Center for the Performing Arts. Night Court, which is a public 501(c)(3) organization, is also seeking sponsors for its program, which for over 25 years has contributed more than $1.3 million to charities. Appellate Section seeks nominations for Hall of Fame
The State Bar of Texas Appellate Section is now accepting nominations for the Texas Appellate Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame posthumously honors advocates and judges who have made a lasting impact on appellate practice in Texas. Nominations should be submitted in writing to email@example.com by July 15. Nominations from the past year will not carry over and nominators should resubmit if they would like to ensure their nominees consideration for this year. The nominator’s contact information, nominee’s bio or CV, photo, and reasons for nomination should all be included in the submission.
Barbara Jordan American Inn of Court accepting
The Barbara Jordan American Inn of Court is accepting applications from Travis County attorneys and judges for the 2019-2020 year. All licensed Texas attorneys are eligible, with a particular focus on diversity and those who have not yet participated in an inn of court. To apply, send a résumé, cover letter, and two letters of recommendation to firstname.lastname@example.org by May 31.
TexasBarCLE names Standing Ovation Award winners
TexasBarCLE named the winners of the Standing Ovation Awards. Award recipients are Joe R. Anderson, of Burns Anderson Jury & Brenner in Austin; John C. Grace, of the city of Lubbock; Mark T. Murray, of Stevenson & Murray in Houston; and Kristal C. Thomson, of Langley & Banack in San Antonio.

The Texas Opportunity & Justice Incubator is accepting applications for its fifth cohort, which begins in July. TOJI is a State Bar of Texas program that helps attorneys build solo law practices that serve low- and modest-income Texans.
