State Bar of Texas unveils new digital archives portal
AUSTIN — The State Bar of Texas has created an online portal to hundreds of archived bar documents and photos, making 80 years of bar history easily accessible to the public.
The digital archives portal was a two-year project of the State Bar of Texas Archives Department to bring about 1,500 digitized documents online. The portal includes more than 700 photos and hundreds of pages of governing documents.
The project as a whole allows a comprehensive look at the evolution of the bar since its inception in 1939. For example, minutes of every board of directors meeting since 1940 have been uploaded into the digital portal and are searchable by topic.
“This is an outstanding public resource and an incredible collection documenting the history of the bar and the Texas legal profession,” said Trey Apffel, executive director of the State Bar of Texas. “These are the public’s records, and our digital archives portal is a major step in making them more accessible.”
Archives staff members will continue updating the digital portal with commonly requested documents and other records to facilitate public access.
