Texas Bar Foundation grant boosts State Bar of Texas
exam preparation scholarship program

AUSTIN — The Diversity in the Profession Committee of the State Bar of Texas is the proud recipient of a $10,000 grant from the Texas Bar Foundation for its Bar Exam Preparation Scholarships.

The Diversity in the Profession (DIP) Committee aims to strengthen and diversify the pipeline of individuals entering the legal profession, and encourage involvement in the State Bar of Texas by familiarizing students with bar activities. By helping defray the financial burden of preparing for the Texas Bar Exam, this scholarship facilitates the transition into the legal profession for law students from backgrounds traditionally under-represented in the profession.

The DIP Committee awards vouchers for partial scholarships from bar preparation companies, but the demand and volume of applications has outnumbered the resources available. Thanks to the generous grant from Texas Bar Foundation, the committee is eager to increase the number of students receiving assistance to offset the cost of bar preparation.

Third-year law school students who attend an ABA-accredited Texas law school and who are preparing for the 2020 Texas Bar Exam are eligible for this scholarship. Selection criteria include but are not limited to academic achievement, financial need, involvement in community/extracurricular activities including student organizations and affinity groups, and leadership experience. Applications will be due in January 2020.

Since its inception in 1965, the Texas Bar Foundation has awarded more than $20 million in grants to law-related programs. Supported by members of the State Bar of Texas, the Texas Bar Foundation is the nation’s largest charitably-funded bar foundation.
