State Bar of Texas to honor Houston-area individuals, organizations at Annual Meeting

AUSTIN — The State Bar of Texas will honor exceptional service to the public and the legal profession during its Annual Meeting on June 16-17 at the Fort Worth Convention Center and Omni Hotel.

The following Houston-area individuals and organizations are among those being honored:

  • Houston Bar Association, Star of Achievement Award for Teach Texas, Outstanding Partnership Award for Juvenile Records Sealing Project, and Award of Merit. Teach Texas uses volunteer judges and attorneys in a program that helps teach seventh grade Texas history students how the state’s court system fits into the larger picture of Texas history. The Juvenile Records Sealing Project pairs lawyers with low-income individuals to help them get their juvenile criminal records sealed for free in hopes of clearing paths to employment, college, and housing.

  • Houston Young Lawyers Association, Star of Achievement Award for Lean in to Law, presented by the State Bar of Texas Local Bar Services Committee

  • Hispanic Bar Association of Houston, Bar Association of the Year Award, State Bar of Texas Hispanic Issues Section

  • Baker Botts LLP, W. Frank Newton Award, presented by the State Bar of Texas Legal Services to the Poor in Civil Matters Committee

  • Judge Marc C. Carter, Judge Merrill Hartman Pro Bono Judge Award, presented by the State Bar of Texas Legal Services to the Poor in Civil Matters Committee

  • Kathryn Boatman, Outstanding Young Lawyer of Texas Award, presented by the Texas Young Lawyers Association

  • Charles L. “Chip” Babcock, Ronald D. Secrest Outstanding Trial Lawyer, presented by the Texas Bar Foundation

  • Donn C. Fullenweider, Outstanding 50 Year Lawyer Award, presented by the Texas Bar Foundation

  • Judge Clarease Rankin Yates, Distinguished Jurist Award, presented by the State Bar of Texas African-American Law Section

  • Daniella D. Landers, Outstanding Achievement Award, presented by the State Bar of Texas African-American Law Section

  • Shauna Clark, Trailblazer Award, presented by the State Bar of Texas African-American Law Section

  • Judge Alvin Zimmerman, Frank Evans Award, presented by the State Bar of Texas Alternative Dispute Resolution Section

  • Alison L. Chen, Best Lawyers Under 40, presented by the State Bar of Texas Asian Pacific Interest Section

  • Norma L. Trusch, Outstanding Work Developing a Pro Bono Program, presented by the State Bar of Texas Collaborative Law Section

  • David J. Beck, Luther H. Soules Award for Excellence in Litigation, presented by the State Bar of Texas Litigation Section

  • Ellen Spalding, Distinguished Texas Real Estate Attorney Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by the State Bar of Texas Real Estate, Probate, and Trust Law Section

  • Jan Woodward Fox, Sarah T. Hughes Award, presented by the State Bar of Texas Women and the Law Section

  • Robert B. Goss, The Colonel Bryan S. Spencer Award for Pro Bono Legal Assistance, presented by the State Bar of Texas Military Law Section

  • Warren Cole, Gene Calvin Award, presented by TexasBarCLE

  • Ricky Raven of Sugar Land, Outstanding Achievement Award, presented by the State Bar of Texas African-American Law Section
