FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Bestselling author S.C. Gwynne to be keynote speaker at State Bar of Texas 2016 Annual Meeting in Fort Worth AUSTIN — Accomplished journalist and author S.C. Gwynne, a former executive editor of Texas Monthly and finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in nonfiction, will be a keynote speaker at the State Bar of Texas 2016 Annual Meeting June 17 in Fort Worth. Gwynne wrote for Time, The New York Times, The Dallas Morning News, San Francisco Chronicle and many other publications before joining Texas Monthly. He served as the publication’s executive editor from 2000 to 2008. His bestselling book “Empire of the Summer Moon” about Quanah Parker and the rise and fall of the Comanche Indian tribe was a 2011 Pulitzer finalist and National Book Critics Circle Award finalist. His latest endeavor “Rebel Yell: The Violence, Passion and Redemption of Stonewall Jackson” examines Jackson’s ascent to become one of the country’s greatest military figures. Debuting in 2014, the book quickly became a New York Times bestseller. Jackson invented the idea of the rebel yell, instructing his men to scream like furies as a way to frighten opposing troops when entering battle. And in Gwynne’s words, Jackson gave the South a myth of hope and invincibility. For Texas Monthly, Gwynne has written cover stories on White House advisor Karl Rove, NASA, the King Ranch and Southwest Airlines, among many others.
