State Bar of Texas to honor Dallas individuals, organizations at Annual Meeting

AUSTIN — Presentations of awards honoring exceptional service to the public and the legal profession will be a highlight of the State Bar of Texas Annual Meeting, to be held June 18-19 at the Grand Hyatt and Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio.

The following Dallas-area individuals and organizations are among those being honored:

  • Lawrence R. Maxwell Jr., Certificate of Merit, presented by the State Bar of Texas Board of Directors and past presidents for outstanding contributions in the legal profession.

  • Chad Baruch, Gene Cavin Award, presented by the State Bar of Texas for substantial contributions in continuing legal education.

  • Dallas Association of Young Lawyers, Star of Achievement Awards for Generation Generosity and the Big Give Back. The Generation Generosity project educates young lawyers on the importance of leadership and community service through partnerships with local nonprofits to complete vital public service projects. Through Big Give Back, 50 attorneys presented free legal seminars to more than 100 Dallas residents.

  • Dallas Bar Association, Star of Achievement Award for the High School Mock Trial Program, Outstanding Partnership Award for the Conference of the Professions, and the Award of Merit. The Dallas Bar Association has a wide range of activities to serve a variety of membership interests including community service initiatives, Civil Rights Act programs, and mentor programs. The High School Mock Trial Program is one of the first law-related programs in the state with partnerships in more than 100 school districts. The project provides students a better understanding of the legal profession and the rule of law. The Conference of the Professions project brings together members of law, medicine, and theology to discuss common challenges facing the professions.

  • Former state Rep. Jerry Madden, Liberty Bell Award, presented by the Texas Young Lawyers Association

  • Aaron T. Capps, Joseph M. Pritchard Inn Outstanding Director Award, presented by the Texas Young Lawyers Association

  • Aaron J. Burke, President’s Award of Merit, presented by the Texas Young Lawyers Association

  • D. Lance Currie, President’s Award of Merit, presented by the Texas Young Lawyers Association

  • Bill Gardner, President’s Award of Merit, presented by the Texas Young Lawyers Association

  • Charlie Wilson, Lola Wright Foundation Award, presented by the Texas Bar Foundation

  • Byron F. Egan, Dan Rugeley Price Memorial Award, presented by the Texas Bar Foundation

  • Darrell E. Jordan, Outstanding 50 Year Lawyer Award, presented by the Texas Bar Foundation

  • Robert K. Wise, Outstanding Law Review Article Award, presented by the Texas Bar Foundation

  • Katherine Hendler Fayne, Outstanding Law Review Article Award, presented by the Texas Bar Foundation

  • Hon. Tonya Parker, Distinguished Jurist Award, presented by the State Bar of Texas African American Lawyers Section

  • Katie D. Grissel, Romina L. Mulloy-Bossio Achievement Award, presented by the State Bar of Texas Bankruptcy Law Section

  • U.S. District Judge Brenda T. Rhoades, John C. Akard Community Service Award, presented by the State Bar of Texas Bankruptcy Law Section

  • Sidney H. Davis, Jr. (posthumously), Legends Award, presented by the State Bar of Texas Insurance Law Section

  • Nikki Towry DeShazo, Distinguished Probate Attorney Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by the State Bar of Texas Real Estate, Probate, and Trust Law Section

  • Dallas Hispanic Bar Association, Bar Association of the Year Award, presented by the State Bar of Texas Hispanic Issues Section
