State Bar of Texas to honor Baylor Law School with pro bono award at Annual Meeting
AUSTIN — Presentations of awards honoring exceptional service to the public and the legal profession will be a highlight of the State Bar of Texas Annual Meeting, to be held June 26-27 at the Hilton Austin and Austin Convention Center.
As part of the meeting, the State Bar will present Baylor Law School with the 2014 W. Frank Newton Award for Pro Bono Excellence.
The award, presented by the bar’s Legal Services to the Poor in Civil Matters Committee, recognizes the pro bono contribution of attorney groups whose members have made an outstanding contribution to the provision of, or access to, legal services to the poor.
The award is named for W. Frank Newton, former dean of Texas Tech University School of Law and longtime pro bono advocate. Recent Newton Award recipients include ExxonMobil Corporation Law Department (2013), Patton Boggs LLP (2012), and Fulbright & Jaworski LLP (2011).
