State Bar of Texas to honor El Paso Bar Association at Annual Meeting

AUSTIN — Presentations of awards honoring exceptional service to the public and the legal profession will be a highlight of the State Bar of Texas Annual Meeting, to be held June 26-27 at the Hilton Austin and Austin Convention Center.

El Paso Bar Association will receive a Star of Achievement Award, which recognizes outstanding projects among local bar associations.

To continue its commitment to the community, the El Paso Bar Association designed a program for middle school students called Lawyers and Liberty…What Would You Do? The program provides students with examples of attorneys who have represented unpopular individuals or groups in difficult cases, such as John Adams’ representation of the British soldiers following the Boston Massacre. The University of Texas at El Paso Law School Preparation Institute joined the local bar in creating and producing a video for the program.

The EPBA provided speakers to lead discussions and answer questions on the importance of our justice system. The goal of the program is to expose middle school students to the justice system in a positive way and inspire them to become leaders in providing justice for all.
