State Bar of Texas presents 2014 Law Day Awards to Texas students
AUSTIN—The State Bar of Texas and Texas Young Lawyers Association (TYLA) today presented awards to winners of the 2014 Law Day contest.
State Bar President Lisa Tatum and TYLA President Kristy Blanchard presented the Law Day Awards to students who were honored at the local level by bar associations from throughout Texas and advanced to the statewide competition.
The national Law Day 2014 theme is American Democracy and the Rule of Law: Why Every Vote Matters, which calls on Americans to reflect on the importance of the right to vote and the challenges we face in ensuring all Americans have the opportunity to participate in our democracy. The theme corresponds with the upcoming 50th anniversaries of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
President Dwight D. Eisenhower established Law Day in 1958 to challenge Americans to understand how the rule of law impacts their lives, and to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to participate in a democracy.
