Harper Estes of Midland to be Sworn In as State Bar of Texas President

(Houston) – Harper Estes of Midland will be sworn in as the 128th president of the State Bar of Texas by Hon. John Hyde of the 238th District Court at a special ceremony at noon, Friday, June 27, at the State Bar of Texas Annual Meeting at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston.

Estes is a shareholder in Lynch, Chappell & Alsup in Midland, where he has practiced for 27 years with an emphasis in commercial trial work, oil and gas litigation, and as a mediator and arbitrator. Estes served the Midland County Bar Association in the capacity of president, president-elect, vice president and secretary/treasurer. He has also served on the State Bar of Texas Board of Directors, as chair of a State Bar Grievance Committee, on the Texas Young Lawyers Association (TYLA) Board of Directors, and as secretary/treasurer of the Midland County Young Lawyers Association.

Estes is certified in Civil Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, and is a Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation. He is active in Big Brothers/Big Sisters and the First Presbyterian Church of Midland. Estes earned a B.A. from Texas Tech University and a J.D. from Baylor University School of Law.

He will serve as State Bar president until June 2009.

The State Bar of Texas is an administrative agency of the Supreme Court of Texas that provides educational programs for the legal profession and the public, administers the minimum continuing legal education program for attorneys, and manages the attorney discipline system.
