San Antonio Individuals Honored by State Bar of Texas

(Austin) – Presentation of awards honoring exceptional service to the public and the legal profession will be a highlight of the State Bar of Texas Annual Meeting, June 26-27, at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston.

The following San Antonio area individuals are among those being honored:

Alfonso Cabañas – Texas Young Lawyers Association (TYLA) President's Award of Merit. Cabañas raised sponsorships for the State Moot Court and served as a judge. He also assisted with revisions to the Texas Professional Ethics handbook, and translated TYLA's "Kids in the Crossfire" (about the impact of divorce on children) to Spanish.

Joseph Ybarra – Texas Young Lawyers Association (TYLA) President's Award of Merit. Ybarra assisted TYLA's Family Law Committee in drafting and editing a new public service pamphlet, "Protecting the Incapacitated: A Guide to Guardianship in Texas from Application to Oath." His work will help thousands of Texans who have questions regarding this complicated area of the law.

Jodye Kasher – Outstanding Chair Award, presented by the Paralegal Division.

Ellen Lockwood – Award of Excellence, presented by the Paralegal Division.

The State Bar of Texas is an administrative agency of the Supreme Court of Texas that provides educational programs for the legal profession and the public, administers the minimum continuing legal education program for attorneys, and manages the attorney discipline system.
