MCLE Accredited Sponsor FAQs

WHO are accredited MCLE sponsors?

Accredited sponsors have a good history of sponsoring quality CLE events. MCLE Regulations state that sponsors who have produced ten courses or more per calendar year for a period of at least two years are eligible for accredited status. Sponsors with a history of frequently denied courses will not be approved for accredited status. View the MCLE Regulations regarding accredited sponsor status (Section 10.3) here.

WHAT are the requirements of an accredited sponsor?

Like non-accredited sponsors, accredited sponsors must submit applications at least 30 days before the course start date. Late fees apply if the course is not submitted within 15 days of the start date. Timely reporting of attendance, changes to course applications, and course fees remain requirements.

Unlike non-accredited sponsors, accredited sponsors have presumptive approval of their courses and do not have to provide course materials at the time of the application. However, sponsors are required to keep this information for at least two years and shall provide the materials to the MCLE Director immediately if requested. Accredited sponsor applications are routinely audited, and course accreditation may be pended for additional information.

WHERE can we apply for accredited status?

Download the application here. Email the completed and signed copy to mcle@texasbar.com. Once we receive your application, the $200 application fee will be added to your account and due before we review your profile. Credit card payments are preferred.

WHEN are our fees due?

Yearly Fees: To request accredited sponsor status, there is an initial $200 application fee. If approved, a renewal fee of $200 will be due every year on the anniversary month of the accredited status (the anniversary month is defined as the calendar month the status was originally approved).

Course Fees: For non-accredited sponsors, payment for course fees is due before review of the application. For accredited sponsors, payment is not due until the month following the reporting of course attendance.

WHY should we become an accredited sponsor?

  • Reduced course fees

  • Automatic, presumptive approval of CLE applications

  • Course materials only need to be supplied if requested by the MCLE Director

  • Course fees do not need to be submitted until attendance has been reported

  • Can advertise “____________ is an accredited sponsor, approved by the State Bar of Texas, Committee on MCLE.”

HOW do we maintain accredited sponsorship?

Course history: Accredited sponsors must maintain a good course history and report attendance in a timely manner. Accredited sponsor profiles are routinely audited and reviewed. Frequent denial of courses and failure to report attendance may lead to revocation of the accredited status.

Yearly fee: Sponsors are responsible for a $200 yearly renewal fee due on the anniversary month of the accredited status. The fee will appear on the invoice 60 days before the payment is due. If payment is not received by the end of the anniversary month, non-accredited status will automatically be applied.

Course fees: Payment for course fees is due the month following the reporting of course attendance. Sponsors who accrue outstanding fees for courses with reported attendance may lose their accredited status.
