General

Who do I contact if I need special accommodations?
If you need special accommodations to participate in Annual Meeting, please contact the State Bar at 800.204.2222 (ext. 1515) prior to Friday, June 1, 2018.

WiFi Access
Free WiFi access will not be available in the Marriott Marquis meeting rooms or the common areas, which include pre-function areas and hallways. WiFi will be available in the hotel lobby, and public areas surrounding the lobby, free of charge.

Hotel Reservation Policy

The deadline to book your hotel room at the discounted rate in the State Bar of Texas room block is May 28, 2018. Please note that rooms are reserved on a first come, first served basis, and we may run out of available rooms in our block prior to the deadline.

In order to confirm a room assignment, the hotel will require the first night’s deposit, refundable up to 48 hours in advance of the reservation arrival date. All credit cards used to prepay will be charged immediately. The hotel will deduct any collected nonrefundable prepayment fees from the amount you may owe as performance or cancellation damages.

What is the recommended attire?
Attire at the meeting is business casual. Feel free to be comfortable in slacks, polo shirts, sweaters, blazers, blouses, and most importantly, comfortable shoes! Suits, ties, nine-to-five dresses and high heels are not required. Attire for the Presidents’ Party on Thursday, June 21, will be announced soon.

Where can I park?
The Marriott Marquis offers valet parking for $38.00 per day per vehicle. Event parking is available for smaller windows of time for the convenience of attendees who are not guests of the Marriott Marquis: 0-3 hours - $20.00; 3-6 hours - $29.00; 6+ hours - $38.00. Overnight self-parking is available at the Avenida North Garage (entrances on Rusk and Capitol St.). The cost is $24.00 per night per vehicle, with unlimited in/out privileges. Your guest key card can be activated for garage access at request upon check-in. Daily self-parking (no in/out privileges) is also available at the Avenida North Garage for $8.00 for 0-5 hours or $24.00 for 5+ hours. Please see the front desk for additional details upon check-in.

Where can I get a shuttle or taxi from the airport?
Directions and transportation information from George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) to the Marriott Marquis:

The George Bush Intercontinental Airport is approximately 20 miles (30 minutes) from the Marriott Marquis.

Exit via Will Clayton Pkwy. Travel 2.5 miles and turn right onto Eastex Freeway Service Rd., then take the U.S. 59 S. ramp on the LEFT. Travel 0.3 miles and merge onto I-69. Travel 12.6 miles and continue onto US-59 S. Travel 3.0 miles and take the Jackson St. exit toward George E. Brown Convention Center. Travel 0.5 miles. Take a slight left onto N. Jackson St. then take the first left onto Ruiz St. Travel 2 blocks and turn right onto N. Hamilton St. Travel 0.4 miles and turn right onto Capitol St. Take the first left onto Avenida De Las Americas. Take the second right onto Walker St. The hotel will be on the right.

Taxi cabs are available at IAH and fare to the Marriott Marquis is approximately $50.00, one way.

Super Shuttle provides shuttle transportation for a fee from IAH to the Marriott Marquis. Ticket rates are approximately $25.00 and reservations must be requested.

Directions and transportation information from William P. Hobby Airport (HOU) to the Marriott Marquis:

The William P. Hobby Airport is approximately 10 miles (30 minutes) from the Marriott Marquis.

Exit the airport on Hobby Airport Loop. Continue onto Broadway St. Travel 2.0 miles and take a slight left onto Gulf Fwy. Keep right to stay on Gulf Fwy., then take the ramp on the LEFT onto I-45 N. Travel 4.4 miles and take exit 45 toward Scott St. Travel 0.9 miles. Keep LEFT at the fork, follow signs for St Joseph Pkwy. Travel 0.9 miles and turn right onto Dowling St. Travel 0.4 miles and turn left onto Polk St. Travel 0.4 miles and turn right onto Avenida De Las Americas. Travel 0.3 miles and turn left onto Walker St. The hotel will be on the right.

Taxi cabs are available at HOU, and the fair is approximately $35.00 to the Marriott Marquis, one way. The Super Shuttle is also available to the Marriott Marquis from this airport. The typical fee is $20.00 and reservations must be requested.

Directions and transportation information from Ellington Field Airport (EFD) to the Marriott Marquis:

The Ellington Field Airport is approximately 18 miles (30 minutes) from the Marriott Marquis.

Exit the airport on Brantly Ave. and turn right onto Galveston Rd toward Challenger. Travel 1.4 miles and turn left onto Scarsdale Blvd. Travel 0.9 miles and turn right onto the ramp to I-45 N/Houston. Merge onto Gulf Fwy., then take a slight left to merge onto I-45 N. Travel 11.9 miles and take exit 45 toward Scott St. Travel 0.9 miles. Keep LEFT at the fork, follow signs for St. Joseph Pkwy. Travel 0.9 miles and turn right onto Dowling St. Travel 0.4 miles and turn left onto Polk St. Travel 0.4 miles and turn right onto Avenida De Las Americas. Travel 0.3 miles and turn left onto Walker St. The hotel will be on the right.

Taxi cabs are available at EFD, and the fair is approximately $55.00, one way.

Both Uber and Lyft are also currently available in Houston.

When can I pick up my name badge and registration materials?
Registration will take place at the Marriott Marquis on the 2nd floor.

Law Student Division Members
As a member of the Law Student Division, you can attend the 2018 Annual Meeting at a discounted rate of $185 for both days. Show up on site and register at the State Bar of Texas Registration Desk. Click here (www.texasbar.com/lawstudentdivision) to join the Law Student Division now.

I want to attend the Annual Meeting but am not an attorney or a member of the Law Student Division or Paralegal Division. May I register?
Yes, you may. However, you will need to print out a registration form and fax (512.427.4303), email (annualmeeting@texasbar.com) or mail it to State Bar of Texas, Attn.: Annual Meeting, P.O. Box 12487, Austin, TX 78711-2487.

I don't want to pay by credit card. Can I still register online and pay later or pay by check? Unfortunately, no. If you do not pay by credit card at the end of the online registration process, your registration will not be processed. Please be assured that every step of our online registration process is secured by VeriSign so your credit card information will be safe. However, if you still want to pay by check/money order, you may do so by completing a printed registration form and mailing that along with your check to our office (State Bar of Texas, Attn.: Annual Meeting, P.O. Box 12487, Austin, TX 78711-2487).

Can I fax my application and payment information?
Yes, you may. However, please make sure that we can read your fax! Please include a cover sheet with clear instructions on how to contact you with any questions. Our fax number is 512.427.4303.

I just registered online but did not receive a confirmation email.
Please call our office (800.204.2222, ext. 1515) if you do not receive a confirmation email within 15 minutes of pressing the “Check Out” button at the end of your registration process.

I faxed or mailed in my registration form but have not received a confirmation.
If you faxed or mailed in your registration form, you should receive a confirmation email within 10 days of receipt of your registration form. If you did not receive a confirmation email, please call our office at 800.204.2222 (ext. 1515).

I pre-registered for the Annual Meeting. Is there anything else I need to do?
Stop by the registration desk located on the 2nd floor of the Marriott Marquis to pick up your badge and other meeting materials.

Can I register for the Annual Meeting onsite?
Yes! Stop by the registration desk located on the 2nd floor of the Marriott Marquis to register onsite.

I registered online but forgot to purchase tickets for the special events. What should I do?
If you have already registered for this event and need to modify your registration, please contact Annual Meeting at 800.204.2222 (ext. 1515) or email annualmeeting@texasbar.com. Remember that breakfasts and lunches are part of the registration. If you want to buy a ticket for a guest, those tickets are available on the registration form. Don't forget to purchase tickets to the Presidents' Party!

May I purchase a guest ticket for the Bench Bar breakfast or luncheons without registering for the Annual Meeting?
The breakfast and luncheons are included in the Annual Meeting registration package. An individual may not purchase guest tickets without also registering for the Annual Meeting. An individual who has registered for the Annual Meeting may purchase guest tickets and invite guests who are not registered for the meeting.

I'm attending only my Section membership meetings. Do I have to register for the Annual Meeting?
If you are attending only your Section's council or membership meetings, you do not have to register for the Annual Meeting. However, if you plan to attend any of the CLE programs, including your section's CLE, you must register for the Annual Meeting. You will need your registration badge for access to the meeting rooms. CLE will be filed only for registrants.

I have registered for the Annual Meeting but would like to make changes to my name on my badge. How do I do this?
If you have already registered for this event and need to modify your registration, please contact Annual Meeting at 800.204.2222 (ext. 1515) or email annualmeeting@texasbar.com.

If I have to change my plans and can’t attend the meeting, can I get a refund?
For a full refund, written cancellation requests must be received by Friday, May 25, 2018. Cancellations will not be refunded once the meeting begins. Send written cancellation request to State Bar of Texas, Attn.: Annual Meeting, P.O. Box 12487, Austin, Texas 78711-2487, or fax to 512.427.4303. Refunds received prior to the cancellation deadline will be processed after the Annual Meeting.

Education

How do I request CLE credit for attending the Annual Meeting?
All CLE events will use the same MCLE number. Total the time for all the CLE you attend, and then turn in just one MCLE card as you leave the Annual Meeting. MCLE cards will be available at several places throughout the meeting. If you are unable to turn in your MCLE card onsite, CLE hours may be self-reported on your My Bar Page.

Will a hard copy of the CLE materials be available for purchase?
Attendees may access any available materials for all CLE programs here. Hard copies of the CLE materials will not be available for purchase.
