Emeritus Status Information
Attorneys 70 years of age or older are exempt from paying membership dues if they have filed a written notice requesting enrollment as an emeritus attorney. See Tex. Gov’t Code § 81.052(e).
Each year, the State Bar of Texas sends a notification to emeritus attorneys regarding Access to Justice contributions, section dues, IOLTA compliance, and online attorney profile verification. The State Bar asks all attorneys to update their online attorney profile every year, according to Tex. Gov’t Code §81.115. According to Article III, Section 3 of the State Bar Rules, State Bar members must also provide a preferred email address to the State Bar.
Emeritus attorneys can log into their My Bar Page at www.texasbar.com to update their contact information, certify their profile information, join sections, and make contributions to Access to Justice. All Texas attorneys are also required to verify their IOLTA compliance information with the Texas Access to Justice Foundation each year.
Enrolling as an emeritus member will not change your current active or inactive status, and emeritus status will not be shown on your online profile.
If you have questions about emeritus status, please contact the Membership Department at (512) 427-1383 or by email at memmail@texasbar.com.
