San Antonio Individuals and Organizations Honored by State Bar of Texas
SAN ANTONIO – Presentation of awards honoring exceptional service to the public and the legal profession will be a highlight of the State Bar of Texas Annual Meeting, to be held June 23-24 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.
The following San Antonio area individuals and organizations are among those being honored:
Sylvia Cardona and Allan DuBois, Presidential Citations, for their leadership in serving as co-chairs of the Annual Meeting Committee. In addition, DuBois is being recognized for his leadership and support of the Texas Lawyers for Texas Veterans initiative on both the local and statewide levels.
Mark Unger, Certificate of Merit, presented by the State Bar of Texas Board of Directors and past presidents for outstanding contributions to the legal profession. Unger was nominated by the Computer and Technology and Criminal Justice Sections for his role in developing the “Texas Bar Legal” iPhone app, which allows section members to access more than 50 state and federal codes, rules and statutes.
Fulbright & Jaworski L.L.P., W. Frank Newton Award, presented by the State Bar Legal Services to the Poor in Civil Matters Committee. Last year, 452 Texas attorneys – or 92 percent - participated in Fulbright’s pro bono activities. In addition, 223 non-attorney volunteers participated in pro bono activities, not including the secretarial and legal assistant services provided on pro bono cases handled by the firm. Fulbright’s four Texas offices donated 46,524 pro bono attorney hours to people and organizations in need in 2010.
J. Burleson Smith, Distinguished Counselor Award, presented by the Antitrust & Business Litigation Section.
Judge John Bull, Michael L. O'Neal Outstanding Jurist Gavel Award, presented by the Municipal Judges Section.
Patti Giuliano, Special Recognition Award, presented by the Paralegal Division.
Larry Gibbs, Texas Tax Legend Award, presented by the Tax Section.
The State Bar of Texas is an administrative agency of the Supreme Court of Texas that provides educational programs for the legal profession and the public, administers the minimum continuing legal education program for attorneys, and manages the attorney discipline system.
