DALLAS – Presentation of awards honoring exceptional service to the public and the legal profession will be a highlight of the State Bar of Texas Annual Meeting, to be held June 25-26 at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas.

The following San Antonio individuals are being honored by outgoing Texas Young Lawyers Association (TYLA) President Sylvia Cardona of San Antonio:

Alfonso Cabańas, Joseph M. Pritchard Inn Outstanding Director Award. Cabańas is being honored for his leadership in the development of TYLA's "Vote America! He then co-produced TYLA's "Healing the Wounds: Navigating the Legal System after Surviving Domestic Abuse" which he single-handedly translated into Spanish. He helped introduce the video to the San Antonio Battered Women's Shelter, the Houston Area Women's Center, and the Texas RioGrande Legal Aid Domestic Violence Conference. Cabańas served as co-chair of the Minority Involvement Committee and co-vice chair of the National Trial Competition Committee.

Alyssa Long, TYLA President's Award. Long served as co-chair of the Law Focused Education Committee, assisting in the rollout of "Vote America! She also coordinated a presentation of "You're Hired! Now What? Knowing Your Rights on Your First Job" to 650 high school seniors at Judson High School. As vice chair of the Minority Involvement Committee, she helped coordinate the first annual TYLA Corporate Diversity Dinner, participated in the TYLA-sponsored St. Mary's University Minority Pre-Law Student Symposium, and assisted in selection of minority scholarship applicants.
