Poverty Law Conference
April 27 - 29, 2016

This three-day event provides valuable training on poverty law issues affecting low-income and poor Texans. The conference offers targeted continuing legal education with a specific public interest focus. The conference will feature presentations from some of the most knowledgeable poverty law practitioners and private attorneys in their respective fields.

Registration will open February 1, 2016.

If you are interested in presenting at the Poverty Law Conference, please fill out the Workshop Proposal form and e-mail it to probono@texasbar.com.

Workshop proposals should be submitted no later than December 14, 2015. Selected presenters will be notified in early January.

Registration Fees

If you are:

  • Employed by a program receiving LSC funds

  • Employed by a program receiving TAJF funds

  • Employed by a Texas non-profit legal services provider, where at least 50% of the civil legal services are free to Texans whose income is 175% of the federal poverty guidelines or less

  • Employed by a domestic violence agency

  • Employed as a legal assistance officer

  • A member of the 2016 Pro Bono College

Your fee is:

  • $100 for full conference and materials

  • $75 for Thursday ONLY tuition and materials

If you are a government attorney

Your fee is:

  • $150 for full conference and materials

  • $125 for Thursday ONLY tuition and materials

If you are a private attorney

Your fee is:

  • $200 for full conference and materials

  • $175 for Thursday ONLY tuition and materials

If registering after April 15, 2016

  • Add $75 to the full conference rate

  • Add $25 to the Thursday tuition rate

Scholarship Applications

A limited number of partial and full scholarships are available for legal service advocates. If your attendance is contingent upon receipt of a Poverty Law Conference scholarship, please do not register for the conference until you have been notified of a scholarship award. Payment is required at the time of registration. We will notify recipients about whether we are able to offer a scholarship to applicants by February 19, 2016.

To apply for assistance, complete the scholarship form and submit by February 5, 2016.

Hotel Information

The 2016 conference will be held at the Omni Austin Hotel at Southpark. The room block will be open until March 24, 2016 at a rate of $126/night.

Hotel Shuttle Service: Courtesy airport shuttle to and from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport is available from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily. For advanced reservations (recommended), call (512) 448-2222. Transportation from the airport to the hotel runs at 30 minutes past the hour and service from the hotel to the airport runs at the top of each hour. The hotel shuttle designated pick-up area is curbside in front of the Delta Airlines Departure Drop off area on the airport’s upper level.
