Emeritus Attorneys Pro Bono Participation Program

If you are retired you can be certified as an Emeritus Attorney which enables you to continue doing pro bono work even if your license is no longer active.

Requirements

To qualify for Emeritus Attorney status, an attorney must:

  • be retired

  • be in good standing with the state licensing authority with which the attorney is licensed or from which the attorney has retired

  • have been engaged in the active practice of law for at least five (5) out of the immediately preceding ten (10) years prior to application for Emeritus Attorney status

  • volunteer with a legal aid organization that has been approved under the program
