Self Assessments – Online Screening Tests
One of the quickest and easiest ways to determine whether
you have symptoms of certain illnesses is by taking a screening test.
Screening tests, such as referenced here, arenot
intended to provide a diagnosis. Instead,
these tests may help identify symptoms and determine whether a further evaluation
by a medical or mental health professional is necessary. As
with any illness, you should see a doctor or mental health professional
if you think you might have symptoms of a particular illness.
Alcohol:
Alcoholscreening.org
is a free service of Join Together, Inc. and Boston University School of Public
Health. Alcoholscreening.org helps an individual assess his/her own alcohol consumption patterns
to determine if drinking is likely to be harming his/her health or increasing
their risk for future harm. Through education and referral, the site urges
people whose drinking is harmful or hazardous to take positive action, and
informs all adults who consume alcohol about guidelines and caveats for
lower-risk drinking.
Depression:
Depression-screening.org is sponsored by the National Mental Health
Association as part of NMHA’s Campaign for America’s
Mental Health. The mission of this web
site is to educate people about clinical depression, offer a confidential
way for people to get screened for symptoms of the illness, and guide people
toward appropriate professional help if necessary.
Gambling:
The
National Council on Problem Gambling strives to
prevent the onset and progression of problem, compulsive and pathological
gambling by providing information, training to professionals to recognize,
treat and help gamblers and their families and by developing presentation
models for at-risk populations, particularly youth, college-aged and older
gamblers. This site also provides a self-test
for
gambling.
Sex Addiction:
The Society for the Advancement
of Sexual Health (SASH)
is the only organization dedicated specifically to helping
those who suffer from out of control sexual behavior. Founded in 1987 by
Patrick Carnes, Richard Santorini and Ed Armstrong, SASH began as a membership
organization for people concerned with sexual addiction problems.
Dr. Patrick Carnes was one of first professionals to work
with sexually addicted people and he designed the Sex Addiction Screening
Test (SAST) to help figure out who has sexual addiction problems and who
doesn't. Click here to visit the SASH website and participate
in testing for sex addiction.
