x 1713 or 512.427.1713 State Bar Sponsors YouTube Video Contest (Austin) – The State Bar of Texas has launched a first-ever YouTube video contest on the justice system, “Lone Star Stories: Texans on Justice.” The contest aims to inspire and engage Texas citizens, young and old, by asking them to create a video on the theme: “Texans capturing the promise of justice for all.”
The contest offers a chance to win $2,500 in two categories: ages 18 and older, and under 18. Entrants will create an original video – three minutes or less – about the promise of justice for all. Entries will be accepted between Oct. 15 and Dec. 15, 2007. Rules and an entry form are available at www.texasbar.com/texansonjustice. Information is also posted at www.youtube.com/group/texansonjustice.
The contest is part of the State Bar’s “Let’s do Justice for Texas” public education initiative. The State Bar is reaching out to citizens of all ages, encouraging them to better understand the importance and value of the justice system in their daily lives, and to be more invested in the institutions that protect their rights.
“YouTube is a powerful new medium that encourages creativity, conversation and connections. We wanted to tap into that energy,” said State Bar President Gib Walton, a partner with Vinson & Elkins in Houston. “We know Texans have opinions. I’m looking forward to seeing what Texans have to say!”
Whatever the issues important to Texans, the State Bar seeks to tap Texans’ creative reserves to open a whole new channel of public conversation about the rule of law.
The State Bar of Texas is an administrative agency of the Supreme Court of Texas. The Bar provides educational programs for the legal profession and the public, administers the minimum continuing legal education program for attorneys, and manages the attorney discipline system. # # # 1414 Colorado St., Austin,
