Resources for Tough Times
We've compiled a page of resources that may be useful to our members during this economic downturn. If you have questions or ideas, please email us.

Stop Practicing from the Shadows
If you're a legal professional who struggles with depression, you're not alone. A State Bar video, "Practicing from the Shadows: Depression and the Legal Profession," offers support and resources. Click here to watch the video in Windows Media format. For a free DVD copy, call the Texas Lawyers Assistance Program at (800)343-8527

Voluntary Access to Justice Contribution
The recession has led to a critical decrease in funding for civil legal services to the poor. Access to justice contributions are accepted anytime, not just during dues season. If you or your firm have paid your dues and want to make a contribution now, please visit our contribution page (requires log-in to My Bar Page).

Legislative Update
During the legislative session we published a free e-newsletter. Read archived issues here: www.texasbar.com/fridayupdate. To see the State Bar's 2009 legislative program, click here. "Stella Awards" a Joke
It is that time of year again - Emails reporting the "Stella Awards" have started making their way through the media and email lists. While these urban legends are all completely false, they have enjoyed a long shelf life and it is important for Texas lawyers to know these stories are not true and to help educate others in our communities. Click here to read a February 2003 President's Opinion from the Texas Bar Journal about these awards.
