For Lawyers
Firm Compliance Information
In an effort to streamline the annual mandated attorney member fee payments, the State Bar of Texas Membership Department provides a tool for firms and other agencies to pay their attorneys’ bar dues (including Section memberships and the Supreme Court of Texas suggested Voluntary Access to Justice contribution), the Attorney Occupation Tax and the Legal Services Fee collectively at one time.
If this is something your firm or agency would be interested in, we ask that you complete the information on the attached participation form and email it to firmcoordinators@texasbar.com along with an Excel file of the attorneys in your firm in the format of the Excel file attached. Please follow the attached instructions for preparing the Excel file. The participation form and Excel file should be submitted together no later than March 1, 2012.
Upon receipt of your participation form and Excel file, we will send you an invoice for your review that lists the fees your organization has indicated it will pay (i.e., dues, sections, ATJ contributions and the occupation tax and legal services fee). Please make any final changes and return them by March 12, 2012. Beginning March 16, 2012, we will provide you with a final invoice. Once we have provided the final invoice, no changes can be made. Instructions for sending your payment is provided on the finalized invoice you receive. When the Membership Dept. receives your check, payments will be applied to each attorney’s record as listed on the final invoice you approved. Payments must be received no later than April 16, 2012.
If you choose to participate in the firm billing process, the Supreme Court of Texas requires that you communicate with attorneys at your firm regarding the option of making a voluntary Access to Justice contribution. All Access to Justice contributions go directly to legal aid programs that help the poor with their civil legal problems. With the poverty population now at 6 million and legal aid only able to help 20% of those who seek assistance, this support is needed more than ever. Attorneys can help by choosing to make the ATJ contribution.
Attorneys participating in firm billing who do not receive a paper dues statement can join sections or make an ATJ contribution online at www.texasbar.com. Click the “My Bar Page” and log in. Select the “My Sections” tab to join sections. Select the “ATJ” tab to make an ATJ contribution.
We appreciate your consideration of this endeavor to streamline the payment process for firms and other organizations. If you have any questions or need more information about the process, please call the Membership Dept. at (800) 204-2222, ext. 1383.
