Age-Exempt Status Information

Attorneys 70 years of age or older are exempt from paying membership dues and the Attorney Occupation Tax.

However, attorneys must return their annual membership statement to the State Bar to retain active status.

Each year, age-exempt attorneys are mailed a membership statement which reflects that they are not required to pay the fees listed above, based on being 70 years of age or older.

Attorneys must return the membership statement or their current active status will not be renewed, and they will not be eligible to practice law.

If you have questions about age-exempt status, please contact:

Membership Department : 1 (800) 204-2222, ext. 1383.

Additional Notes
