State Bar of Texas Presents Law Day Awards to Texas Students
AUSTIN – The State Bar of Texas and Texas Young Lawyers Association (TYLA) today presented awards to winners of the 2013 Law Day contest. The national Law Day theme is Realizing the Dream: Equality for All. President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation 150 years ago. Fifty years ago, Martin Luther King, Jr. stood in front of the Lincoln Memorial and called upon our nation to live up to the great promise of equality for all.
Today, State Bar President Buck Files and TYLA Director Dustin M. Howell presented the Law Day Awards to students who were honored at the local level by bar associations from throughout Texas and advanced to the statewide competition.
Law Day was established in 1958 by President Dwight D. Eisenhower to challenge students to understand how the rule of law impacts their lives, and to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to participate in our democracy.
