Files to be Sworn in as 132nd State Bar of Texas President
HOUSTON — Buck Files of Tyler will be sworn in as president of the State Bar of Texas by Judge Cathy Cochran of the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals at noon, Friday, June 15, at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston.
The ceremony will take place during the State Bar of Texas Annual
Meeting, which features two days of continuing legal education for

Files is a shareholder in Bain, Files, Jarrett, Bain & Harrison, P.C. in Tyler. He is certified in criminal law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and criminal trial advocacy by the National Board of Trial Advocacy.
He served on the State Bar’s Board of Directors and received
the Outstanding Third Year Director Award and a Presidential Citation
in 2007. He also has served on the Texas Board of Legal Specialization,
the District 2 Grievance Committee, the Continuing Legal Education
Committee (Chair 2008–2011), and the Criminal Law Advisory Commission
Files is a charter member and former director of the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and was inducted into TCDLA’s Hall of Fame in 2011. He was named Defense Lawyer of the Year by the Criminal Justice Section of the State Bar in 2004. He is a member of the College of the State Bar and is a Sustaining Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation. He received the Smith County Bar Association’s Justinian Award in 2008.
Files served in the U.S. Marine Corps, attaining the rank of captain before ending his active duty service in 1967. His education includes a bachelor’s degree from Austin College, where he sits on the Board of Trustees, and a master’s degree and J.D. from Southern Methodist University.
The State Bar of Texas is an administrative agency of the Supreme Court of Texas that provides educational programs for the legal profession and the public, administers the minimum continuing legal education program for attorneys, and manages the attorney discipline system.
