TYLA Teams Up with SACADA to Prevent Underage Binge Drinking
SAN ANTONIO – The Texas Young Lawyers Association (TYLA) and the San Antonio Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse (SACADA) invite members of the media and community leaders to join them for:
What: “Partnering for Prevention”
When: 7:30 a.m., Thursday, May 17
Where: Pearl Studio, 200 E. Grayson St., San Antonio, TX 78215
TYLA and SACADA will present the TYLA video, The Unconscious Truth: Physical and Legal Side Effects of Underage Binge Drinking, to community leaders in the hope that they will learn more about the serious issue of underage binge drinking, which is responsible for more than half of the 79,000 excessive drinking related deaths each year.
Priscilla Camacho, a TYLA director who is helping to coordinate the event along with fellow San Antonio TYLA Directors Sam Houston and Alyssa Long, and State Bar Directors Allan Dubois and Sara Dysart, says TYLA is partnering with SACADA to increase the video’s reach.
“Our goal is to continue to get this information passed along,” Camacho said. “We want those who attend to turn around and present the information to others and hope that this video will be shown in high schools and in colleges across the state.”
The Unconscious Truth: Physical and Legal Side Effects of Underage Binge Drinking is a multi-media project created by TYLA to educate students and parents on the signs of alcohol poisoning and the legal and physical consequences associated with binge drinking. The program is funded by a grant from the Texas Bar Foundation. Since its inception in 1965, the Texas Bar Foundation has awarded more than $13 million in grants to law-related programs. Supported by members of the State Bar of Texas, the Texas Bar Foundation is the nation’s largest charitably funded bar foundation.

TYLA, widely recognized as the public service arm of the State Bar of Texas, develops programs designed to assist Texas attorneys in the practice of law and provides legal education to Texans as a public service. TYLA’s main purposes are to facilitate the administration of justice, foster respect for the law, and advance the role of the legal profession in serving the public. All licensed Texas attorneys who are 36 years old or younger or who are in their first five years of licensure regardless of age, are automatically members of TYLA.
