Lawyers Giving Back
The Access to Justice (ATJ) Contribution
The voluntary ATJ Contribution on the State Bar of Texas Dues Statement provides attorneys with a convenient opportunity to make a contribution to Legal Aid in Texas. Giving everyone access to justice is a fundamental principle on which our country was founded.
Your $150 ATJ contribution will help make a life-changing difference to our most vulnerable citizens across Texas. Your gift provides critical support, including assistance to the elderly, veterans, victims of domestic abuse, at-risk families facing issues such as home foreclosure or victims of natural disasters. Your voluntary tax-deductible donation will be used to support legal services provided to the poor through local programs funded by the Texas Access to Justice Foundation and the Texas Bar Foundation.
Individuals wishing to show their strong support of access to justice may contribute at a higher level to become a member of the Champion of Justice Society. Individuals may give at the Sustaining ($1,000 per year for 5 years), Gold ($1,000+), Silver ($500-$999), and Bronze ($250 - $499) levels.
Membership is on an annual basis and benefits include:
- Invitation to the Champion of Justice Society reception as well as recognition at the State Bar of Texas annual meeting;
- The Champion of Justice Society crest displayed next to your name on the State Bar website, including on the popular “Find A Lawyer” page; and
- Listing in the Texas Bar Journal and the Commission’s Update newsletter, website and Facebook page.
Attorneys can include a contribution for access to justice with their annual dues statement or can contribute online at any time through MyBarPage. Organizations and other individuals (non-attorneys) can support legal services to the poor by making a contribution by visiting www.texasatj.org/donate. To mail a contribution, make contribution payable to: STATE BAR OF TEXAS ATJ FUND. Contributions should be mailed to: State Bar of Texas, ATJ Fund, PO Box 12487, Austin, Texas 78711.
The Access to Justice Commission also presents the Champion of Justice Law Firm Awards to Texas’ law firms with the highest overall percentage of contributing attorneys to the ATJ Campaign. We encourage all firms to take the pledge to be a Champion of Justice Law Firm. Representatives from the Commission regularly visit law firms across Texas to provide information about the campaign as well as opportunities for pro bono and financial support. To arrange a presentation at your firm, call 800.204.2222, ext. 1855 or email email@example.com.
