Judges occupy a unique and
force within the legal profession. They see attorneys in action and
quickly identify an attorney who may be impaired. As such, judges are
a position to act to promote positive change in the lives and careers
of lawyers in crisis. Judges are also among the few
who are positioned to help other judges who may be challenged by
substance use and mental health disorders. As with lawyers, TLAP
maintains a list of volunteer judges who are interested providing
support to other judges in crisis.
TLAP also operates the ABA's
National Hotline for Judges Helping Judges (800-219-6474) for jurists
who are seeking help for themselves or other judges. All
are confidential by statute.
